Former Manchester City midfielder Neil Lennon believes that the Premier League title race will go down to the wire.
City are three points behind league leaders Arsenal, who have a game in hand and will face West Ham later today.
“They [Arsenal] know what they have to do. Arsenal will go into their game [against West Ham] as favourites but it’s never as easy as that. You’ve got to go out and do the job,” Lennon said on Man City’s Matchday Live broadcast.
“City have done the job. They’ve had a great week and hopefully they’ll have another great week this week and that momentum and confidence will take them into the race [to the end] of the season.
“It’s fascinating to watch. I think it’s going to go to the wire one way or the other.
“Arsenal have the advantage, but you’d never bet against this [City] group of players or this manager.”
City beat Leicester on Saturday 3-1 after a brace for Erling Haaland and a goal for John Stones. Kelechi Iheanacho scored the only goal for the visitors at the Etihad Stadium.
Arsenal and City have now played the same number of games, but Mikel Arteta´s men are in action twice before they travel to the Etihad in City´s next Premier League game on April 26.
Arsenal host bottom-of-the-table Southampton on Friday, while City face Sheffield United in the FA Cup semi-finals next weekend.
Lennon also spoke about the importance of UEFA Champions League for teams across Europe.
It must be noted that Man City will travel to Germany to face Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, April 19, in the second leg of the UCL quarter-final. Pep Guardiola’s side have an impressive 3-0 lead in tie after the win in the first leg at home.
“[Champions League games] are special. It’s a blue ribboned event and the quality of the players and the teams are exceptional,” said Lennon.
“The pace of the games are incredible as well, but just the quality and what it takes out of you, concentration wise, as well as physically – it’s just the best blue ribboned event to win.
“When you do win it, you’re definitely the best team.”
